The Fifth Estate: Networks of Enlightenment in the Age of Trump

Peter B. Kaufman, educated at Cornell and Columbia, is a Senior Program Officer at MIT Open Learning. He is the author of The New Enlightenment and the Fight to Free Knowledge (2021) and The Fifth Estate: The Power and Responsibility of Our Knowledge Institutions (forthcoming).

 

Peter, currently a member of the SCR at St Edmund Hall, has written about the different enemies of free thought that exist in the modern world, and the opportunities that we have to fight for and defend the free exchange of knowledge in our networked video age.

 

Peter was also the founding publisher of the Russian Library series, produced by Columbia University Press: https://cup.columbia.edu/russian-library.
