Digital Enlightenment Studies: Issue 2 now live

The Voltaire Foundation and Liverpool University Press are delighted to announce the second issue of Digital Enlightenment Studies, the open-access, international, peer-reviewed online scholarly journal dedicated to the application and exploration of new digital methodologies and resources for the interdisciplinary field of eighteenth-century studies.

This issue includes reports on digital projects currently underway, showcasing a range of varied possibilities offered by digital scholarship in the Enlightenment:

• the digitisation of a focused corpus of Revolutionary government legal proceedings and the resource developed to interrogate them
• a European Research Council-funded project to assemble a vast corpus of Enlightenment texts in order to identify and analyse cases of text reuse using cutting-edge data-science techniques
• an open-access catalogue bringing together records for all known manuscripts relating to Voltaire for the first time, allowing users to explore them in a dynamic and accessible way thanks to its innovative data model.

This issue also sees the publication of Professor Glenn Roe’s inaugural lecture for the annual Voltaire Foundation Lecture on Digital Enlightenment Studies, in which he discusses how a hidden network of intertextual references can be uncovered by employing new computational methods to leverage existing digital collections.
