News – Voltaire’s English alter ego unmasked by new letters

New light has been shed on the life of Voltaire by letters bought by the New York public library. In a BBC Radio 4 interview and a separate news report Professor Nicholas Cronk, director of the Voltaire Foundation, describes how he came across the letters.

News – Rousseau in 2012!

The celebrations have started! If you missed it last month, see our web page on Rousseau books, conference news and much more, celebrating the 300th anniversary of Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

The Voltaire Foundation has loaned a watercolour by Thomas Sunderland to the exhibition ‘Rousseau 300: Nature, Self and State’ (UCL Art Museum, 9 January–27 April 2012). The exhibition coincides with an international conference and a production of his opera, Le Devin du village (UCL, 19–21 April 2012).
